Lapland off the Beaten Track: Arjeplogsfjäll + Southern Sarek
Join me on my solo adventure in Swedish Lapland. I hike from Jäkkvik to Kvikkjokk through Arjeplogsfjäll and via the southern edge of Sarek. Much of the route is off-trail and some sections are fairly strenuous. The landscape is striking and the weather unpredictable – both as expected ;-).
I use a packraft occasionally; all crossings except the lake Bartávvre are optional but may take extra time or effort if done without a boat.
On this route resupply is impossible. I was fully self-sufficient.
For those interested in more details on the route:
Jäkkvik – Riebnes (near Gruomba) – Bartávvre – Máranjávrre – Miekak – Sarddávágge – Vaimok – Fierrovágge – Tarradalen/Såmmarlappa – Slihtavágge – Njoatsosvágge – Pårek – Kvikkjokk
Rago, Padjelanta, Sarek – Traverse in 16 Days
In this video, I revisit one of my most memorable solo hikes in Lapland. Starting in Rago National Park in Norway, I cross into Sweden to traverse the vast and remote wilderness areas of Padjelanta and Sarek National Parks, once again finishing in Kvikkjokk.
Over the course of 16 days, I experienced wild terrain, shifting autumn weather, and the deep solitude that only these northern latitudes can offer. The route is similar to my hike 5 years ago with one key difference: in Sarek, I followed a different path via Sarvesvágge and Rapadalen, instead of the Njoatsosvágge valley from the original trip.
Yellowstone Winter Adventure – Skiing from Old Faithful to the Canyon
Join me and my friend Udo Kellner on an unforgettable 1-week ski trip through the stunning, snow-covered wilderness of Yellowstone National Park. From the iconic Old Faithful geyser to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, we spent our days skiing and our nights outdoors in tents.
Originally planning to go cross-country, we quickly had to adapt—the snow was too soft and powdery, making off-trail skiing with pulks nearly impossible. Instead, we followed the park’s snow-covered roads through forests, wide-open meadows, and steaming geothermal areas. Along the way, we also had some incredible wildlife encounters.
Femundsmarka and Rogen – 8 Winter Days in Norway and Sweden
This video follows my 8-day solo ski trip starting in Grövelsjön and crossing the Femundsmarka National Park in Norway, before heading into Sweden’s Rogen Nature Reserve.
I spent most nights camping in my tent, with two nights in mountain huts along the way. The weather was mostly good, though I faced some intense winds at times.
Autumn in Lapland – From Nikkaluokta to Abisko on Twisted Paths
This film is about a solo hike in Swedish and Norwegian Lapland in September. I did not follow the “standard” itinerary which is the famous King’s trail (Kungsleden) but rather a zig-zag route through the mountains preferring less frequented areas.
The weather was very changeable (sun, rain, some snow) and oftentimes there was a strong wind. It was a memorable adventure in a beautiful landscape.
Rogen Nature Reserve — by Water and by Land
This short film is about a trip in the Rogen Nature Reserve in Sweden. Using a packraft and our feet we explored a small part of this area. Unfortunately, due to unfavorable weather conditions we had to cut our trip short. But nonetheless it was a great experience.
Arjeplogsfjäll und Sulitjelma Circuit
Two videos about a late summer/early autumn backpacking trip in northern Sweden and Norway. The whole hike was roughly 20 days.
For the first time I’m bringing a small packraft as an experiment. Crossing Mávasjávrre wouldn’t have been possible without it as there was no boat service this year.
Part 1: Jäkkvik – Tjállas – Guijaure – Lomtjärnen – Silvervägen – Ikkesjávrre – Mavas
Part 2: Mavas – Pieskehaure – Ny Sulitjelma – Sorjushytta – Stáddájåhkå – Pieskehaure – Vaimok – Tarradalen – Kvikkjokk
Winter in Sarek — A Winter Adventure in Lapland
This short film is about a multi-day ski trip in and around Sarek national park in Swedish Lapland. While there were also some days with less than perfect conditions we were mostly lucky with the weather and had time to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Many thanks to Udo Kellner who joined me on this adventure! Udo also has a Youtube channel and created a video about our trip. Udo provided additional footage for this film – in particular all the drone sequences.
South of Padjelanta — A backpacking trip in Lapland that didn’t go as planned
This video is about a summer backpacking trip in Swedish Lapland south of Padjelanta National Park. Our hike was in July. In the beginning it was unusually warm and water levels in the rivers were high. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete our hike as planned (a circular route from Kvikkjokk via Padjelanta and Sarek) as we needed to backtrack when we encountered a stream that was impassable (we tried to cross it in several places).
The disappointment was great but in the end the trek back was quite relaxed. We fondly remember our adventure, although we had different plans ;-).
